How long does LASIK last?

This is a much more complicated question that most people realize.

Generally speaking, LASIK Eye Surgery can last a lifetime.

The rate of enhancement varies widely based upon the surgeon and technology used but the best providers are experiencing a 1-2% enhancement rate for patients.

However, there are other factors that come into play during the natural aging process.  The two primary aging items which emerge are Presbyopia and Cataracts.

  • Presbyopia is the natural aging process of the eyes that causes people to need “cheaters” for up close reading usually starting in their 40s.
  • Cataracts are a clouding of the eye lens that is best treated with a refractive lens exchange.

Neither of these conditions are caused by your LASIK Eye Surgery. Some patients confuse the development of these conditions with an ineffective LASIK procedure and that is not accurate.  They are totally different.

On average, LASIK lasts for decades for the vast majority of people.
